Do not drink the water, or order any drinks with ice. The culture is vibrant and colorful, but only something like 10% of the denizens actually speak passable English.
Be careful getting into a taxi here, because instead of taking you where you want or to your hotel it's more likely that the driver will instead take you to a family member who has their own establishment or hotel.
Avoid street food for the most part, or you are just asking for "Delhi Belly". Stay vegetarian, make sure any women in the group are dressed conservatively, and no fresh fruit or veggies! Make sure everything is cooked thoroughly, and no meat!
Also, cows are viewed as very sacred so do not disturb them. All of the cows have state issued ID cards, also. It's pretty serious.
All in all, be safe, don't let anyone carry your bags, and enjoy India! Safe travels.
